  • Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) refers to a wide range of tools and strategies that supplement or replace spoken language for individuals complex communication needs. These tools and strategies can include anything from pictures/icons, core vocabulary boards, to speech generating devices and apps with robust vocabulary sets. AAC empowers people to express themselves effectively and participate fully in daily activities.

To ensure a comprehensive AAC assessment that leads to successful communication, we utilize the SETT Framework. This framework allows us to consider your child's individual needs (Student) across various environments (Environment), like home, school, and social settings. We identify the specific communication tasks they need to master in each environment (Tasks), and then explore the most suitable tools within the AAC system (Tools). This could include picture cards, low-tech devices, or high-tech speech-generating devices. By applying the SETT Framework, we gather comprehensive data on your child's needs and environment, allowing us to recommend the most appropriate AAC tools and services to unlock their full communication potential.

  • We offer a comprehensive evaluation service specifically designed to support school districts in making informed decisions about speech-language and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) needs for students.

More than Communication: Our unique approach goes beyond traditional speech assessments. We consider the full picture, including:

To ensure effective communication in the classroom, we conduct a comprehensive assessment that considers various factors. We evaluate a student's speech and language skills, including their understanding and expression abilities. We then explore if an Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) system would benefit them, and if so, which type would best suit their needs. Furthermore, we analyze the classroom environment to identify potential barriers or facilitators to communication. Finally, we assess the specific demands of different tasks and activities to determine the most appropriate assistive technology tools and supports that will empower the student to actively participate and thrive in their learning journey.

Benefits for Your School District: Our comprehensive evaluations provide a clear picture of a student's communication needs, informing eligibility decisions for speech-language and AAC services. This data then allows for the development of targeted intervention strategies that address individual strengths and weaknesses across different contexts. Ultimately, by removing communication barriers and providing the right tools, we empower students to fully engage in the learning process and achieve improved learning outcomes.

  • We provide direct speech and language therapy services to children with complex communication needs. This includes using Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and core vocabulary strategies to help them develop functional communication skills that they can use in the classroom.

  • A dedicated liaison acts as a bridge between your district and families, ensuring clear and consistent communication about the student's communication and AAC systems needs. They are a valuable resource during IEP meetings, readily available to answer questions on speech and language development and AAC, fostering a collaborative environment when planning for student success.
